Planning Ahead with Steampunk Gentleman’s Accessories Junk Journals

I’m excited, because I got an idea for handmade Christmas gifts for the adults in our family. I’m going to keep noodling on that one for a while, but thankfully I’ve got plenty of time. 😉

But for other holidays, things seem to come fast, especially for those of us who make things by hand.

So I wanted to share details for a small Steampunk Gentleman’s Accessories junk journal I made recently, because journals like this would make such good Father’s Day gifts. If you like making for the men in your life, or if you just enjoy a good steampunk project, this one might give you a few ideas.

I love making these smaller journals because they feel special without being overwhelming. This one is about 5 1/2″ tall by 3 1/2″ wide. I have a lot of pre-made 3×5 ephemera and they fit into this format perfectly. This size journal a nice size for gifting, and they let me play with vintage gears, bottles, labels, patent-style imagery, and all those grungy little details that make steampunk so much fun.

Why I like this style

The Steampunk Gentleman’s Accessories theme is one of those themes that just keeps giving. It works well for masculine journals, birthdays, Father’s Day, travel journals, keepsake books, and all kinds of “thinking of you” gifts.

I especially like that it lets me use:

• aged papers,

• old labels,

• patent-style imagery,

• bottles and curiosities,

• and that worn, collected look I always seem to drift toward. 😉

Why I’m sharing it now

I know it’s only just spring, but if you’re a maker, you already know how quickly holidays sneak up on us. So, I’m trying to think ahead just a little. A small journal like this could be a lovely Father’s Day gift, and it would also be easy to personalize for a husband, father, brother, uncle, or friend.

And of course, once I start thinking ahead for one holiday, my mind immediately starts wandering to the next one. 🙂
