How a Junk Journal Idea Starts
This is how an Idea starts… 😉
I watched a YouTube Video by LUISE HEINZL – JUNK JOURNAL ART @luiseheinzl
She and a friend were working on projects inspired by a vintage Tim Holtz book – Tim Holtz Distressables 2, published in 2008. I was lucky enough to snag a used copy on Amazon.
As I was paging thru the book, I spotted a cute idea on page 6 – Mini Stitched Booklets. That project called for a lot of supplies that are no longer available, but it was easy to see that I could modify the format I have been using for the #100DayChallenge – the 3×5 format with two rounded corners and whale tail tabs.
Instead of 3×5 rectangles, I doubled them – 6 wide x 5 tall – so I could score them down the middle and then get Jeffrey to stitch them for me. 😉
(Note – Jeffrey, my husband, is a retired Costume Designer. He used high end Berninas in his Costume Shop. When he retired, we made the decision to switch to vintage Singer sewing machines. He stitched this project on a vintage 401 with top hat cams, if there are any fellow Vintage Singer lovers reading this.. 😉 )
Once they were stitched, I was ready to embellish! For this project I used my own Clear Stamp designs. I tend to theme my clear stamps, just so I can keep them straight and find them. On this project I used Natural History Library stamps and Specimen stamps. I finished off most pages with my very, very, very, favorite vintage office stamp – a circular 12 hour time stamp. (I’ll show it when I do a rundown of my stamping supplies)
On the booklet cover, I used a portrait from my Photo Booth Portraits Vintage Ephemera set.

The rest of the ephemera is from upcoming products I have been working on and cutting out with my new Silhouette Cameo 4.
Let me emphasize here – you don’t need any of the supplies I used!
This project would be very easy to personalize with whatever supplies you have! 😉 The booklets could be hand stitched, stapled, or even taped. Tabs can easily be cut out by hand and can be any interesting shape. Any theme will work. The only important thing? HAVE FUN!
This versatility is the inherent beauty of Junk Journaling and why I love it so much! Pretty much anything goes! As Tim Holtz says – ‘You do you!’
This project can either be a Junk Journal or used a ephemera in a Junk Journal (Very meta 😉 )
NOTE – Stamps used are of my own design.
